Ballet Folklorico de Durango

Our goal is to raise $5,000 to sustain and grow Ballet Folklorico de Durango – a K-20 Mexican Folklore dance program of El Centro Hispano Center at Fort Lewis College. The funds raised during this campaign will go towards instructor salaries, scholarships for FLC student dancers, tuition support for youth and community members, as well as professional development for students and staff. We are two Fort Lewis College graduates, dedicated to nurturing the area’s Hispanic heritage. One of the ways we give back to the community is our work with El Centro de Muchos Colores Hispano Resource Center at Fort Lewis College.

Ballet Folklorico de Durango is a k-20 educational program of El Centro that we use as a mechanism for  cultural storytelling through dance, especially as it relates to Mexican Folklore. Our goal is to raise $5,000   to sustain and grow Ballet Folklorico de Durango for the 2019-20 academic year.

An important goal is to keep the program affordable for participants. Currently, 90 percent of our youth dancers take advantage of the need-based scholarship for tuition, and we also allow all students to utilize our inventory of shoes and costumes.

Ballet Folklorico has been in our community since the early 1990’s—providing an underrepresented student population an outlet to cultivate pride in cultural heritage & provide a positive after-school activity. 

With your support, we hope to keep this program in our community and continue to foster a creative educational environment that will continue through each generation.
